Project Description

As globalization continues to play a key role in companies, more and more UK companies are eager to hire professionals who have experience working overseas. One survey suggested that those who have worked outside the UK could add 15% to the salaries within one to three years of returning.

When you calculate that increase over the span of your career, this turns out to be a lot of money.

Another study carried out by the Centre for Economics and Business Research showed that the experience gained from international careers increases productivity, which in turn adds 9.4 billion pounds to the British economy annually.

Aside from the financial advantages, another study showed that 6 out of 10 of those who had worked abroad were able to advance within their organization faster. Nearly 75% of employers shared this opinion.

When looking at the engagement of employees, 55% felt that after spending time working abroad, they were more engaged in their roles. 53% said they were better at bringing more opportunities to the business.

The future is only set to see international careers increase, with 65% of employers believing the demand for work abroad will continue to grow. The largest group of people in demand will be for women aged 25 to 35, 57% of this group are considering international roles.

As if this wasn’t enough, employees that worked at companies that offer opportunities for international travel are likely to stay in that job for four years more than in other firms. (So, as an employer, bear thins in mind if you are looking for ways to reduce your employee turnover!)
