Project Description

Australia is a true gem: beautiful beaches, a vibrant culture, and a practically perfect work-life balance.  If you have the opportunity to work there, you should do everything possible to take advantage of this experience.

The government is quite strict on who is allowed to enter the country and for how long. Packed bags and a passport will only get you as far as the airport. Without the correct visa, you will likely be turned away before feeling the Australian sun on your face. You need to get a working visa.

If you have a job offer in Australia or your company is sending you to Australia, you will need an employer-sponsored visa. A sponsored visa can either be short term (between 2 and 4 years) or long term (permanent).

Employer Nomination Scheme Visa: Subclass 186

Before applying for this visa, you will need to have an offer of employment and it is obligatory that the skill you provide cannot be provided by the Australian workforce.

You will need to meet the following requirements:

  • your job offer is on the Consolidated Skilled Occupations list
  • have at least 3 years of experience in this field
  • a relevant skills and qualifications
  • You are in good health and have a good character
  • in certain circumstances, you may have to prove your English proficiency.

Your employer has to apply for an Employer nomination application. Once this has been done, you can apply for your own visa. The process takes several months.

The Employer Nomination Scheme visa costs AUD$4,045.

In conclusion

Making sure that all of your paperwork is in order before moving to Australia is probably one of the most daunting parts. That said, once you have confirmed your eligibility for the right type of visa, the process is quite straight-forward and you will soon be on your way to enjoying one of the most spectacular countries in the world.
